WAM!NET is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering from Savvis that provides cloud based content management and accelerated file transfer — both within organizations and across their customer and vendor supply chains.
This can be done over the Internet or through dedicated connections. By combining management, movement, and storage of files via a single solution, WAM!NET can reduce complexity, cycle times, and piracy risk to optimise business gain from digital content.
WAM!NET transfers files and related information to authorized organizations and users in a fast, secure and reliable manner. It also provides the ability to store and index files for review and approval, sharing and long-term retention. An easy-to-use web interface allows organizations to centrally manage the entire workflow.
Cloud based WAM!NET service can be rapidly deployed, is easily scaled up or down as business needs change, and requires limited administration.
As a SaaS product, Savvis also continuously enhances it without upgrade fees or complex user migrations. This enables WAM!NET to be deployed in a fraction of the time than other, traditional, content management systems, with low upfront cost and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

World Class Service and Support
Since its launch in 1995, WAM!NET has earned a strong reputation for reliability, performance, and world-class support. Unlike most traditional software and hardware purchases, WAM!NET service is provided with 24/7 phone support and service level agreements (SLAs). WAM!NET service is used by thousands of organizations to manage millions of files each month — encompassing everything from video, audio, and still images to software, office documents, and large data files
The service has been optimized for large files and can manage those that are hundreds of gigabytes in size. Many terabytes of content are stored and moved through distributed business processes each month using this proven service.
Flexible pricing
WAM!NET provides a variety of subscriptions to meet different cost and performance requirements, including flexible pay-per-use options, fixed monthly cost options, and subscription terms for project-based business processes. The subscription models are content-centric and are based on transfer, storage, and download use, and aren’t limited by the number of users and sites.
Cloud infrastructure and dedicated Appliances
WAM!NET has always been sold and supported as a subscription-based service. It uniquely combines a shared central file transfer and storage cloud infrastructure and dedicated on-premise or hosted file transfer appliances. Subscribers choose the best mix of dedicated appliances and shared infrastructure resource to meet their performance needs and financial constraints.
The transport and storage cloud infrastructure is highly component resilient and hosted in state-of-the-art Savvis data centers. This infrastructure resides on the WAM!NET Extranet, a virtual private network (VPN) within the Savvis ATS network that is optimized for file transfer. The WAM!NET Extranet is accessible from the Internet, Ethernet connections, and lease lines. A variety of standards-based technologies are used in the service including: multi-threaded TCP and http acceleration, SSL encryption, PGP file encryption, CRC32 and MD5 checksums, XML-based information forms, and more.
Service Components
Content Portals
The Customer can access the WAM!NET Extranet via shared content portals on the Internet called Internet Gateway (IG) and Content Submission Portal (CSP).
Internet Gateway allows users to upload files to and download files from the Extranet. Content Submission Portal provides a more locked-down portal for users to simply upload files to the Extranet.
File Transfer appliances
Customers can also connect over the Internet through dedicated file transfer appliances for higher volume sites. Such connections are referred to as a Direct! IP (D!IP) connections. Direct! IP connections are routed through one of the shared Internet hubs sitting on the Extranet.
The Customer can also have dedicated connections direct to the Extranet for sites requiring dedicated bandwidth and performance SLAs. These are called Direct! (D!) connections and have appliances connected to the Extranet over Savvis Ethernet or lease lines.
File transfer appliances can be installed on the customer’s LAN and WAN for users to access. The appliances can also be configured to host a dedicated content portal called Direct! Gateway (D!G) that is accessible to remote users over the Internet, allowing them to upload and download files.
For more on the Dedicated Appliances, click on Direct! and/or Direct! IP from the menu to your right.
Content Management
One of the key features of the WAM!NET Extranet is the ability to securely store, index, share, and distribute files using storage libraries that are file type aware. Files contained in libraries can be shared with users via direct access to download files, by transfer of files to another service component, or via download links sent in an e-mail called an eFolio.
Administration and Reporting
The WAM!NET web interface provides the subscriber with visibility and central management of their workflow over WAM!NET.
Available interfaces
The service includes access to a variety of interfaces. File transfer appliances and the content portals are accessible through a desktop application, Transmission Director X (TDX); pre-configured desktop submission icons; browsers; mounted folders; or scripts on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Unix platforms.
Libraries are accessible through a browser and URLs. File transfer appliances and libraries are also accessible by code through Java and Microsoft .NET SDKs to integrate business systems and third party applications.
