WAM!NET Direct!

The WAM!NET Direct! Appliance is an add-on to the WAM!NET Service Package that can greatly enhance the speed and robustness of sending and receiving content via WAM!NET.

The appliance provides clients with the ability to send, receive, and track digital files transported between their Local Area Network (LAN) and authorised destinations connected to the private SAVVIS Content Exchange using a dedicated leased line connection to the WAM!NET network. There is no difference in functionality between the WAM!NET Direct! And WAM!NET Direct! IP (Internet Provisioned) services.

The WAM!NET Direct Service is a subscription based content delivery service that provides customers with ability to send, receive, and track digital files transported between their Local Area Network (LAN) and authorised destinations connected to the private SAVVIS Content Exchange. This service also requires the provision of a dedicated network circuit to your building.

Wam!Net Direct requires the installation of our ‘Purple Box’ at the customers premises, its purpose is to interface between the customers network and the SAVVIS Content Exchange, the gateway for incoming and outgoing packages, implementing of security measures, and the control centre with the SAVVIS transaction software operates. The Purple Box is provided as part of the monthly service fee.

File distribution is enabled with the use of several different applications, depending on the customers needs, these are:

  • A desktop software application called WAM!NET Transmission Director X (TDX), installed on team members computers (PC or Mac) responsible for file/content distribution management

  • Drag and drop hot folders can be created for each client, partner and/or supplier to further simplify the transferring of files/content

  • A web browser interface known as Transmission Web Client (TWC), for implementations when installing software on team members’ computers in not possible

As WAM!NET Direct! is a non-internet based dedicated connection, the service is extremely robust as well as secure, providing military grade security for the transport of digital content.

Higher delivery speeds can be provided according to your requirements.

The WAM!NET Direct! DV service involves the provision of a dedicated 15Mbps (or faster) network circuit to your building/location and the installation of dedicated Savvis hardware. This service is also a highly secure and incredibly fast file transport solution that was designed specifically for Savvis’ global entertainment media customer base. Companies such as Sony, Universal, Warner, Sonopress and Technicolor use the service for their operations in most parts of the world.

Both Direct! And Direct! DV services work in exactly the same way, the only difference is the speed.

Provisioning of a Direct! Service typically takes 20 business days from the time the site survey forms are submitted.
