Internet Gateway Account Creation

One of our the most common configurations for new WAM!NET customers is to have a Direct! or Direct! IP Service and to then distribute Internet Gateway accounts to their ‘community of interest’ (clients, supplier, etc.). The community then uses Internet Gateway to send files to our client’s WAM!NET server.

Here are some useful steps as documented by Digital Quay CTO, Jason Discount …

Step 1

Using sp.wamnet.com, login with your InfoCenter Administrator’s username and password. Once you have logged in, choose InfoCenter in the horizontal navigational column in the top right edge of page.

Step 2

Regardless of which “Site” is selected in the “Current Site” pull down menu, you can choose “Users” in the navigational column in the left frame of InfoCenter. This will pop open the WAM!NET Users window.

Step 3

In the WAM!NET Users window, click the “New User” button. This will bring you to the Service Login Information window.

Please fill out this form as accurately and completely as possible. Some important things to remember:

  • Complete all mandatory fields.
  • Usernames must be unique across the entire WAM!NET customer base.
  • Once the value set in the timeout field has been reached, users will be logged out of WAM!NET web sites regardless of whether a transfer is in place. I recommend this be set to 7200 (2 hours) to prevent the interrupted uploads of large files via Internet Gateway.
  • The “Publicly Visible” option should only be set to Yes if you wish to allow other WAM!NET customers to permit this user to access their services (usually never needed).

Step 4

Once this form has been completed, you will be returned to the WAM!NET Users window. Locate the user you have just created, and click the “Add” link listed under the “Internet Gateway” column. This will bring you to the Internet Gateway User Information window:

Step 5

Please fill out this form as accurately and completely as possible.

Some important things to remember:

  • The Published Name is the name other WAM!NET sites will see this account as.
  • An email notice will be sent to the user’s email address (entered in step 4.) upon successful completion of this form.
  • For InfoCentre Access it is unlikely you would want a user to have access to IC so it is preferable to select either “IC Prohibited” or “IC Tracking Only”.
  • In most cases you will want your accounts to have sending and receiving permissions with your Site only. Should you need this account to have trading relationships with other WAM!NET sites, these will need to be added once you have completed setting up the account (using InfoCentre Permissions).
  • For Default Job Ticket View, I recommend “User Selected” or “HTML Only” as the “Java” option is not fully compatible with all operating systems and web browsers.
  • I recommend against the use of Java Smart Upload as well for compatibility and would recommend users install WAM!NET”s Transmission Director X Software (which is now compatible with Internet Gateway should they need to upload folders or large amounts of files at once.
  • For Hosted By Site, you must choose the Published Name of your Direct! Site. This is usually your only option.
  • I recommend specifying the user’s email address and checking the checkbox for “Send an e-mail notification when a package is received on this Account” as this will notify the user on arrival of a package whereas the other email notifications should only be used if necessary (reasonable explanations for each notification type are provided on screen).
  • The “Allow IGFTP access” option allows this user to use the Internet Gateway via FTP. This is not a standard FTP interface, and does require some training, and therefore I do not recommend it. Please feel free to contact us to understand how to use IGFTP.
  • The “Force SSL Access” option makes Internet Gateway serve all pages and accept all files over a secure connection. Unless security for the relevant client is paramount, I recommend against this option as some corporate firewalls and proxy servers have trouble routing SSL and transfer speeds may be slower. If this option is not checked, the end user will still have the option to use Internet Gateway over a secure connection. In addition, if this option is checked and the user is reporting having trouble, the first troubleshooting step I would recommend is to un-check this option.

Submit the form, choose a business classification (required, and only relevant if the site is Published) and you’re done!
